There’s nothing better than a great Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich recipe and this is my ultimate version. I love to serve these on a busy weeknight if I need dinner on the table for my kids in 15 minutes, or cater them to my son’s wrestling team after a great practice. They’re quick to cook and extremely delicious.

When it comes to making this Philly Cheesesteak Recipe, it’s most important to make sure you buy very thinly sliced tender beef, like ribeye, strip, or sirloin steak. I love adding two types of cheeses, the classic provolone as well as a cheese sauce. So many people have told me this is the best cheesesteak they’ve ever had.

If you love a great sandwich, try my Slow Cooker French Dips and Nashville Hot Pulled Pork, you won’t be disappointed.

Pro Tip: If you are thinly shaving the beef at home, pop the steak into the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes before slicing, this will make it much easier!

Ingredients for homemade philly cheesesteak recipe.

Ingredients

  • 12-inch sub rolls – We love Jimmy John’s, but you can also use whatever rolls your grocery store has.
  • Shaved beef – Be sure to buy thinly shaved tender beef, like ribeye, strip steak, or sirloin. Your butcher can slice it thin for you. They also sell packs of it too in the meat department.
  • Bell pepper – A classic ingredient to serve on top of the meat on the cheesesteak.
  • Onion – Pairs perfectly with the bell pepper.
  • Mushrooms – You can add these if you’re a mushroom lover or omit them if you aren’t.
  • Salt, pepper and garlic powder – Make a seasoning mix out of the three spices to season your beef.
  • Worcestershire sauce – Adds that hint of umami in every bite.
  • Bacon Grease – Save this whenever you are making bacon and store in the fridge. If you are in a pinch we love buying Bacon Up from the store as well.
  • Arbo’s cheese dip – This is a cheddar cheese dip that becomes the perfect sauce for the cheesesteak. Use your favorite brand from the store.
  • Provolone cheese – Buy the slices, this is a required ingredient for a classic cheesesteak recipe.

This beef was thinly sliced NY Strip from Costco but many grocery stores sell “shaved beef” in 1lb packages. SPG is salt, pepper, garlic.
