Cooking went from a hobby of mine to hopefully my full time occupation when it’s all said and done. Besides cooking there are several things I really enjoy doing. I used to play a lot of golf. Like, A LOT! Before my kids were born I played prob 5-6 times a week. I’m a dreamer and have had the opportunity to play on some of the greatest courses in the world (accessible to the public that is). These trips were always accompanied by my best friend Mark and many times our wives. The memories gained from these will be forever cherished.
Locally I have had the opportunity to play Victoria National and Valhalla golf clubs. Both tough tracts that ate my lunch!!
In the continental US, I have been to Pinehurst, NC a couple of times and that place will always be special to me. I can smell the pine needles when I think about that beautiful town…. I’ve been on the banks of Lake Michigan to play Whistling Straits. With the wind coming off of the lake, it was easily 20 degrees colder on the course than it was in town. I think about good times with friends there and drinking that delicious New Glaurus “Crazy Squirrel” brown ale on draft. TPC Sawgrass was an amazing experience, I nearly aced the #17 famous par 3 island green. I hit a beautiful 9 iron right over the pin that rolled back to 8 inches. That was one of my best golf memories. We visited Pebble Beach in 2019 and although other commitments had kept me from playing much golf at that point we had an amazing time on one of the most beautiful and famous courses in the world! My favorite place in the US to play golf though is a coastal resort called Bandon Dunes. Situated on the Pacific Ocean in the small town of Bandon, OR it is absolute golf utopia in my eyes. We visited there in 2012 and walked 100 holes of golf in 3 1/2 days. I loved and cherished every step….
Outside of the United States I was able to take the trip every golfer dreams of. We played at the “home of golf”, St. Andrews Old Course in Scotland. We also played every other course on the British Open circuit in Scotland, including the exclusive Muirfield golf club. That trip could be its own blog post if you would like to hear it….
In the next blog post I’ll cover another hobby/passion of mine but you will have to check back to find out what it is….
Loved this blog.. could just picture the courses and feel the wind and smell the pines.
