Bumps in the Road

November 30, 2023

I don’t think life ever goes as smooth as you would like. I left my full time job as a nurse after 22 years in early August. A week later as I’m ready to tackle this creator gig full time I woke up with what I thought was a pulled muscle in my butt cheek of all things… 🤦‍♂️😂 No injury, which made me question why this was happening. It progressively got worse to the point where I was as miserable as I have ever been physically. I could only sleep in one position and I noticed my big toe on my right foot had some weakness.

Finally, I woke my wife up on a Sunday morning and told her I had to go to the ER. That pains me as I was an ER nurse and know you shouldn’t go there unless it’s a true emergency. I just didn’t know what else to do. Well, they happened to be slow that morning and because of that the Physician Assistant decided to order an MRI with my toe weakness. The results showed a disc rupture at L4-5 that was protruding out and down lying on the nerve root. This is why I was having so much pain and the toe weakness.

The following morning the muscle spasms started and I couldn’t stand for more than 30 sec without experiencing the worst pain I’ve ever endured in my life. I was bedridden until I got in to see a neurosurgeon who scheduled surgery 2 days later. By this point I had “drop foot” and surgery was literally the only option. I had instant relief after the surgery and slowly started to feel better although a week or 2 of back spasms were a little hiccup in the healing process.

Thankfully all of my brand partners were very gracious to give me extensions for content and I was very thankful…. 2 months post op I’m back to creating everyday even though I had foot surgery this week. But, that’s for the next blog post!

I had an emergency laminectomy and the muscle spasms were more painful than the actual surgery site. Let your body heal and get better quickly!
