Expert Tips:

  • Brown the bacon or ground beef first, the baking will not cook the meat all the way so this is important.
  • We like to cut the apples from the pie filling into smaller pieces for a better bite, fresh apples can also be used. However we recommend they be sautΓ©d for that caramelized taste.
  • Stir frequently when baking for even cooking, we want the dish to be cooked in every place.Β

What to Serve With Apple Pie Baked Beans:

The options are endless, here are some of our go-to recipes to pair with the beans:

Storage and Make-Ahead Instructions:

Apple pie baked beans can be made in advance, but longevity of freshness depends of your ingredients. If you use fresh apples, they might not stay tasty as long as if you used preserved fruit filling, etc. However if stored in the fridge in an airtight container, this dish will remain delicious for up to 4 days.Β

Frequently Asked Questions:

Notes

Sometimes I will swap out bacon for pulled pork or brisket but bacon is my preferred meat. Sometimes I’ll add ground beef as well, Β it’s really versatile! I don’t add additional brown sugar bc I feel it adds too much sweetness with the apple pie filling as well. I like to cut up the apples into smaller pieces. You don’t have to use the β€œFireshire” sauce if you can’t find it but it’s so good! I would prob sub A1 if you don’t use the W sauce. Β These can be made in the oven but the hint of smoke adds so much flavor!

This looks delicious and I’m gonna make it! I was wondering though about the mustard. I love yellow mustard but this seems like alot. Is the mustard a strong flavor in the finished product or does it merge with other ingredients to be more subtle once cooked ? Thanks!

          • Matt Ramsey

You can certainly adjust it to your liking. No prob at all!

You said you always use bacon and the recipe says 2 pounds. So if I wanna add ground beef, brisket, or pulled pork, how much do you add? And then do you decrease the amount of bacon?

    Reply
    • Matt Ramsey

Always same amount of bacon but if I add the other meats it’s usually same amount as bacon. Makes it extra hearty!

    Hello! I’ve made this twice!
I liked it with the original style beans better but that’s my preference.
I doubled the recipe but only used 4 cans of apple pie filling to 6 cans of beans and I thought it was the most amazing bean recipe I’ve ever had!
You’re a genius. The yellow mustard and bbq sauce are terrific additions!

Only get smoke if you have a smoker. You can get β€œliquid smoke” but I’m not a big fan.

This looks amazing! Do you have to put it in a smoker or can you make this inside in a regular oven? Is there a big difference in the taste between cooking it in a smoker vs a kitchen oven? Thanks!

    Reply
    • Matt Ramsey

You can do the same time and temp in the oven! Since going for smoke at 275 though, 300 for maybe 2 hrs should be fine in the oven if you want to speed it up. Really just giving it some time to warm and marry those flavors.
