These Pepperoni Rolls so easy to make with approachable ingredients in only 30 minutes. These can be served as a snack, an appetizer, or even a side course with a larger dish. Any way you serve them, they are always a crowd pleaser. I love to take these to BBQs, family gatherings, and even just to make as an afternoon snack.

Pepperoni rolls are originally from West Virginia, and they are so delicious! This is my own take on the classic recipe. I use a store-bought tube dough like Pillsbury makes the preparation even easier and accessible. I see these rolls as a combination of cheese bread and pizza, which are two of the best foods in my opinion.

While we fill these with pepperonis and cheese, you can customize as with any toppings that you like. If you are interested in a pizza combination, feel free to pair these with our loaded pizza dip for an explosion of flavor!

Ingredients for pepperoni rolls.

Ingredients:

  • Pillsbury Pizza Dough – this is my favorite dough to use and works the best every time.
  • Mozzarella Cheese – a classic and perfect stretchy cheese to use for a pizza style dish.
  • Large Pepperonis – you can use small if you like, I just find using large helps get pepperoni in every bite.
  • Egg (For Wash) – this will allow the dough to get extra crispy and remain fluffy.
  • Melted Butter – this will be mixed with your seasonings for a smooth flavor!
  • Italian Seasoning – the classic seasoning for any pizza dish.
  • Garlic Powder – another great flavor to complete the taste of these rolls.
  • Grated Parmesan Cheese – this will be a topping on the rolls once they cook to perfect the dish!

Expert Tips:

  • The layering of these rolls keeps them crispy and delicious. Make sure you are mindful of keeping even layers of pepperonis and cheese with your dough to ensure perfection all the way through.
  • Feel free to add any of your other favorite pizza toppings. Bell peppers, extra cheese, bacon, sausage or even olives could all work!
  • Since these rolls lack sauce, dipping them in your favorites is a great choice! While marinara is the most popular, using other sauces like cheese, ranch, or even garlic butter would be amazing.
  • Make sure you roll them up tightly and pinch the seams to ensure all the ingredients stay inside.

What to Serve With Pepperoni Rolls:

These pepperoni rolls can be served many ways. Either as an appetizer with a side of marinara pizza sauce for dipping, or as the side dish of a larger meal such as a pasta dish. These rolls can also be freshened up with a nice salad on the side as well.

Storage and Make-Ahead Instructions:

If you want to prepare this dish ahead of time, you can roll them in advance and keep in the fridge for a few hours or even overnight. Then bake them right before serving.

I don’t recommend freezing due to the moisture and texture of the rolls that needs to be preserved for the best taste. After making the dish you can store any leftovers in the fridge!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can you use any brand pizza crust for the rolls?

You can, but I get the best results using Pillsbury. I have experimented with other brands and always go back to it.

Is pizza sauce not part of the recipe?

No, but we like to have pizza sauce, cheddar cheese sauce, or garlic butter to dip them in

Haven’t experimented with em in the air fryer. I’d prob reduce the temp to maybe 375 and keep an eye on them. I think they might be done in air fryer in 12-15 min.

I logged back on to attempt to change my comment. Although they did cook super fast, I’ll def make these, again! I’m not a great cook and didn’t want to burn them. I will just adjust the oven temp. next time. These were the absolute BEST snacks and disappeared the moment they were brushed with the butter and seasonings!
