Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Easy to make with minimal ingredients -comforting flavors in 30 minutes.
  • Minimal Cleanup -one pot recipe.
  • Perfect for anyone -all ages and even picky eaters love this.

Ingredients for crack chicken soup.

Ingredients:

  • Rotisserie Chicken -this is the best type of chicken for crack chicken soup, quick and easy.
  • Bacon -adds a rich, meaty flavor to compliment the seasonings.
  • Low Sodium Chicken Stock -using low sodium will help keep the saltiness down, giving a slight health benefit with the same taste.
  • Orzo Pasta -this pasta has a similar shape to rice. Feel free to use other pasta for this recipe as well.
  • Ranch Seasoning -the best part! Provides rich flavor that takes the soup to the next level.
  • Garlic Powder -another great flavor addition, its a classic!
  • Black Pepper -simple yet essential.
  • Smoked Paprika -if you are sensitive to spice you might want to skip this step, but I like the little kick it adds.
  • Onion Powder -another classic flavor component to compliment the soup.
  • Heavy Cream -this is what will give your soup the creaminess to bring it all together.
  • Shredded Colby Jack Cheese -hand shredded is best, pre-shredded does not melt well.
  • Cream Cheese -another creamy addition to richen the soup.
  • Sour Cream -if you prefer to swap this with greek yogurt you can, but I like to keep things classic.
  • Dried Parsley – optional for garnish.

Expert Tips:

  • Use rotisserie chicken for ease.
  • Shred your cheese by hand, don’t use pre-shredded.
  • Use softened cream cheese as well as room temperature sour cream and add them at the end for smoothness.
  • Don’t remove the bacon fat from the pan, this is where the flavor is.
  • Other types of pasta to use include elbow macaroni, broken spaghetti, ditalini, or even rice is a good substitution.

What to Serve With Crack Chicken Soup with Orzo:

The richness of the soup can be balanced out with a fresh salad, like Caesar, a classic house, or any of your favorite salad options.

The soup can also be accompanied with a hearty slice of garlic bread, breadsticks or cheesy bread to add some substance to the soup.

Storage and Make-Ahead Instructions:

While this soup is best served fresh, it can also be refrigerated or frozen for later use. Just make sure when storing the soup it is kept in an airtight container at a steady cold temperature. Refrigerating will only keep it fresh for less than one week, but freezing this dish can keep it delicious for months.

To reheat you can use a microwave or put the soup in a pot over the stove and slowly reheat, adding a splash of water or cream to rehydrate as needed.

Very tasty. I changed it up a little. I used Greek yogurt in place of the sour creme and added a California blend of veggies. Served it up with a toasted baguette. Perfection! Will make again.

I tried this recipe and it tastes great! I used more orzo and chicken stock, but it’s still creamy proportionate. I didn’t use any additional salt. Very good!
