Notes

  • If you are using fresh green beans, it is recommended to blanch them before making this dish. Blanching and roasting green beans is a process that is good for preserving their fresh texture. Fill a pot big enough to hold all your green beans with water and bring to a boil. Let the green beans sit in the water for 2-3 minutes and then remove them. Next place them in a bowl of ice water to shock them. This will preserve the texture and flavor of the vegetables and prepare them to be cooked further. This process is not needed for canned green beans.
  • Using bacon fat to cook your green beans is an important aspect of this recipe's amazing flavor. Bacon grease provides a unique taste that is hard to achieve with other oils, it gives a rich, smokey aspect to the dish that takes it to the next level.
  • Be sure to cook your green beans for the correct amount of time. Over roasting your dish can lead to a mushy texture in your green beans.
  • If you prefer the taste of bacon over sausage, you can swap the meats and use bacon for this recipe. It will be equally as delicious!
  • These baked green beans can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. Be sure to put them in an airtight container, or they will not remain fresh.
